The meetings ended early on Friday and I had a few hours to explore Bangalore. I headed towards Cubbon Park, a grand old park in the middle of the city. I then noticed this impressive structure in the distance. I shot many compositions, but this is my favorite, which best captures the scale of this building.
I vaguely knew it was a government building, something to do with the parliament but that’s about it. I just reveled in its old-world architecture. Except, upon research, I discovered that it was only built in 1956. It’s called Vidhana Soudha, the seat of the state legislature of Karnataka, where Bangalore is located.
While an impressive building by any measure, this angle is deceptive. The photo shows two buildings. The building in the distance, the one lighter in color, is a smaller replica built in 2005. That’s called Vikasa Soudha which is on the other side of the road, south of the main building.
