I don’t drink coffee, which probably sounds odd to many of you. And, I rarely drink tea either. The rest of my family, however, does drink coffee and when they were waiting for their order, I was busy doing photography. What else.
From an opening with a view behind the counter, I watched and documented the activities of the baristas. Unexpectedly, one stopped and smiled, which pleasantly surprised me.
For all the street photography that I do, I still don’t find it easy. I feel self-conscious at times, even when photographing in a public space. There are aggressive street photographers who invade a person’s space for shock value. They want to surprise or anger their subjects to make an interesting shot. Not me. I suppose I’m more of a documentary photographer that likes to catch the everyday scenes. I also try hard to catch people in pleasant or neutral expressions. I’m not here to embarrass. Getting a genuine smile is the ultimate acknowledgment.
