2nd Street Sunset – Austin, Texas

I vaguely remember reading years ago — when I first started photography — that shooting sunsets is a distinctly amateurish subject. It’s apparently something serious photographers don’t do. I myself don’t usually shoot the setting sun, no matter how enticing it may be, even at a tropical paradise surrounded by palm trees and frozen cocktails.

So today’s post is not really about sunsets. Rather, I choose to view it as a study of light and shadow with leading lines. Or, for the image below, an exploration of the color and flare characteristics of the Olympus XZ-1.

On the other hand, I don’t take photography that seriously. And technically, I am an amateur and proud of it. So I don’t mind breaking the sunset rule, I suppose.
