You might have guessed that I take a lot of pictures. Certainly when I travel or go to events but also of normal everyday things. It’s part obsession, the fun of documentation, and the constant training of the eye.
I’m starting a new feature on the blog called Snapshots. I have a whole set of reasons for making and featuring snapshots, which I talk about in my upcoming monthly newsletter. If all goes according to plan, the September edition should be coming out in a few days. Signup now for the Newsletter to get this month’s issue and read my rationale for the snapshots. By the way, make sure confirm your email address when signing up.
I made all of these photos with the Olympus XZ-1, but I’ll use other cameras too. My snapshot cameras will be small compact models. You’ll see that most photos are of everyday scenes. Stores and restaurants that I visited, often during my weekend errands. Occasionally, snapshots will cover the “B-roll” equivalent of my main cameras, documenting events, photowalks or even travel.
I think my current snapshots are too stiff and exacting. That’s part of my photographic style which works well in general but perhaps not for the casual nature of this genre. I might try to loosen my framing standards as I continue with this exercise. We’ll see how that turns out.
I have a free monthly newsletter that’s perfect for busy people. Signup for the Newsletter to get the best of my posts, old and new, plus additional content not available anywhere else.
