What I saw in India, and this is a good example, is the entrepreneurial spirit of individuals. I saw street vendors and small markets spring up anywhere that makes sense. Between the stores and Chamundeshwari Temple, people set up makeshift stands that sell all manner of goods. You can see it in the background of today’s photo.
I wonder if there is any sense of permitting or licensing that goes on in India? I’m not sure, but I’m guessing, no. In the US, of course, things are regulated and zoned so there isn’t that extreme mix of commerce. Though more recently, I’ve seen farmer’s markets spring up in parking lots of shopping centers. I’m sure these are all pre-planned and far from ad hoc, but it’s a start.
I love how little kids can sleep almost anywhere, even in noisy and crowded places. Just a capture of an ordinary slice of life in India, which is why I like street photography.
