Though the Enchanted Tiki Room is a Disneyland classic, introduced in 1963, it was groundbreaking for its time. The Audio-Animatronics technology allowed animators to synchronize movement, audio, and visual effects. It enabled even more ambitious animatronics used later in It’s a Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Haunted Mansion.
The show features talking and singing birds and tiki statues. The cast of characters grows throughout the show. At its finale, shown here, over 225 animated characters sing, along with lighting and water effects.
I went twice during this stay at Disneyland. In the first show, where Maynard was the announcer, I was sitting off-center. In my second late-night visit, I was able to sit in the back row, dead center. Enabling me to make this nearly symmetrical composition.
