Cameras as Artwork, Getty Center – Los Angeles, California

I was thrilled that, in addition to a large print and photographic exhibit, The Getty Center had a display of cameras. It was a photographer’s dream come true.

As you can imagine, I spend a lot more time looking at photographs and cameras than Manet’s paintings. Different strokes for different folks.

The museum displayed a history of noteworthy cameras from the mid 19th century up to the digital age. They only had one digital camera. I’ll talk about that tomorrow, and I’m sure you’ll be surprised at their selection. I like that they presented cameras as works of art. Sure they are tools, but some of them can be quite beautiful.
