About a half a block down on the same street from yesterday’s post, I found this structure. Located on Kalaimoku Street in the heart of Waikiki, it’s a surprising building given the tall and more grand neighbors in the district.
This small remaining patch of residential looks like an outlier. Even on the other side of the street, newer, more substantial towers have replaced buildings that probably looked like this. I can see these places disappearing over time. The land is much too valuable for such low-density development.
Hard to see from this angle, but this is an apartment building with probably four units. Unlike yesterday’s duplex, I don’t see much architectural merit here. While it might be a loss to the current tenants, it doesn’t look like a building worth preserving.
