Spiral, Hudson Yards – New York, New York

There were numerous, very tall structures going up at Hudson Yards. In the center, we have the Spiral, a 1,041-foot tower designed by Danish architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group.

I like urban landscape photography, but my first love was architecture. And even now, I follow the development of noteworthy buildings. I’ve read about the Hudson Yards and the Spiral for years, and I finally visited in June 2022.

The distinguishing feature of the Spiral is that each floor will have outdoor gardens which spiral around the building. You can see part of that in the stairs-step element that wraps the structure. The actual building, at least from this vantage point, was disappointing. It had none of the elegance of the original rendering. I suppose that’s not surprising.

I should probably reserve judgment until it’s completed and the plantings mature. Perhaps a view from farther away will better showcase the spiraling gardens.
