Vessel, Hudson Yards – New York, New York

This cup-like structure is the Vessel, a giant spiral staircase and sculpture that is the artistic centerpiece of Hudson Yards.

Designed by Heatherwick Studio, the sculpture has unfortunately become a magnet for suicides. After the fourth person jumped to their death, the structure was closed until further notice.

Not knowing the tragic history of the structure, I was puzzled that it wasn’t open when visiting in May 2022.
