Taking the Number 4 subway south, I got off at Fulton Street. I walked west on Dey Street, and this magnificent view of the rebuilt ground zero came into focus.
The tall building is One World Trade Center, aka. The Freedom Tower. The roof height matches the previous World Trade Center towers. The spire rises to a height of 1776 feet. The alien-looking structure is the Oculus Center, a train station where I met my friend Susie for lunch. I like how the darker conventional buildings frame the dramatic new development.
The Oculus is one of three train stations I wanted to document in New York City. The organic-looking interior matches its unique exterior, as we will see in tomorrow’s post.

What do you think happens to water runoff in a heavy rainfall with that chute-like downslope of the roofline?
I don’t think Star-Architects think about weather.
