You might be familiar with my love for neon; this sign was a perfect target. This modern sign affixed to a contemporary building differed from most neon designs. Also, this image doesn’t have selected color processing where a single color is highlighted in an otherwise black-and-white picture — it was really like this.
At a 62mm equivalent and with perspective correction in post, it’s a graphic homage to the striking design. I created other variations since I was in Fujifilm 16-80mm test mode.
This image may look wider than the first. However, it’s at a 120mm equivalent, shot from far away. The office building with irregular balconies is across the street. However, telephoto compression makes it look connected to the parking lot.
Remarkably, I made sharp image-stabilized pictures at 1/8 of a second at 120mm. This lens does have five stops of stabilization, as indicated by the technical specs. I even successfully shot at 1/4 second in some cases, though this required deliberate concentration. I opted to keep for shutter at 1/8 for a high success rate.
Rather abstract and minimalist, I also shot this at 120mm equivalent, but up close — again at 1/8 of a second. I was thoroughly impressed with the Fujifilm 16-80mm f4 and fully confident it would deliver as a one-lens travel solution for my upcoming European trip.
