Old Town Color – Zurich, Switzerland

Issue 58 of my fabulous photography magazine is hot off the digital presses (via email). This month’s issue includes my first rant, a new photographic vision, yearly events to push boundaries, and more. Sign up for the free magazine to get the next issue and all the previous issues.

Much of my coverage of old town Zurich has been in black and white. The monochrome treatment matches the gloomy and rainy day. However, there was actually a surprising amount of color in the old district. I noticed this, particularly in the retail establishments a block or two away from the Limmat River.

Some pink coral and reds appear even tropical, a surprising look for a cold alpine country. On the other hand, having warm colors during frigid, dark winters might act as a needed psychological boost.

The following are my observations of the old street east of the river.

  1. Hi Andy,
Read the magazine, cute dog, but a handful of work I think. I also read about the Sony a7 and the challenging price of the Sony a9 III,
well, the result also counts, of course, and not just the price – although $6,000 is already a nice amount.
However, many people sometimes seem stuck on a choice of brand and the associated amount of gear they have collected,
while a switch might be the best thing that ever happened to you.
I have been photographing for almost 55 years, I was really stuck with my Pentax, but it couldn’t keep up with the changes in my photography.
Tried Fujifilm for a year, and then sold everything again.
I have now switched to OM System – Olympus, and everything has changed.
Unfortunately, there are many prejudices about micro 4/3, but once you can get past that, a new world opens up for you.
Speed, range, image quality and last but not least superb stabilization!
You may already have a digital Olympus in your collection, but the top models are on a different level.
I currently have the E-M1X and E-M1 MKIII (and many others 🙂 )
Maybe you can test the new OM-1 II, you can almost have three for one Sony a9 III.
Liked the pictures of old Zurich, great colors!
    Regards, Marc.

    1. Hi Marc,

Thank you for reading the magazine and the blog. Much appreciated.

As you correctly surmised I have shot with Olympus cameras and have used Micro 4/3 quite a bit in the past. In fact, I probably have more blog posts with Olympus than any other camera.

Your suggestion to use OM Systems for fast action is a great one. I have no intention of spending $6000 on Sony’s latest. And the the speed and compactness of the Olympus technology should work well at a lower price.

      Something certainly worth looking into.

      Thanks, Andy
