We headed west over the Limmat, a few blocks from the area I was documenting. While this part of the city still looks historic, the buildings look more modern. However, the Lindenhof neighborhood is still considered part of Zurich’s Altstadt (old town in German). This odd-looking building caught my attention.
Triangulating via Google Maps, I discovered the Urania Sternwarte, a public observatory built in 1907. The facility is available for tours and features a telescope up to 600X magnification. It’s located in the dome at the top of the building.
The structure received a quick snap framed within an archway as we proceeded west. If we stayed in Zurich longer, it’s the kind of place that I would’ve loved to visit. It looks like it’s filled with architectural character and a photographic delight.
I have one more of the Urania Sternwarte from a different angle and unframed. You can better see the building to appreciate its odd architecture.
