Hotel Ducs de Bourgogne – Paris, France

I mentioned yesterday that our second Paris Hotel was located in a fantastic place between the Marais District and the Louvre Museum. The location was unbeatable, with a short walk to many tourist sites, restaurants, and shops. The big downside was the size of the room. Our room was not particularly small for this part of town. However, it was cramped compared to standard American hotel rooms, although there were always exceptions. My room in New York City was nearly the same size with an even smaller bathroom.

We stayed at the Hotel Ducs de Bourgogne. Not knowing any French, I can’t even begin to understand how to pronounce the name. While the room was small, the detailing and quality of the furnishings were excellent. We got the bigger bed, but it’s not a king-size bed by American standards. With limited space around the bed, opening two of our carry-on suite cases was challenging. We managed and had no regrets about our stay.

I asked my wife which hotel she preferred, this one or the spacious modern Courtyard by Marriott near the train station. The ideal, of course, is the Marriott room at this location near The Marais. It was hard for her to decide, but she preferred the Marriott when pressed. I like this one better because of the area and character of the hotel.

Comparably, the bathroom seemed more generous — not large, but not tiny either. There was no bathtub, but I liked the generous shower room with stylish tiles and a glass door. The New York City hotel room I mentioned had such a small bathroom that it was hard to turn around inside.
