Compression on Pont Alexandre III – Paris, France

A short walk from yesterday’s Petit Palais is Pont Alexandre III, considered Paris’ most ornate bridge. In addition to four ornate statues on the corners, the bridge features exuberant Art Nouveau lamps.

I was taken by these elaborate lamps and used a longish telephoto, a 108mm equivalent, to compress these repeating visual elements. Combined with one of the statues and the dome from the Hôtel des Invalides, we have a triumphant scene of classic architectural expression.

With the nearby architecture of the Grand and Petit Palais on one side and the Hôtel des Invalides on the other, the Pont Alexandre III is an architectural masterpiece that not only connects the two sides but enhances the entire neighborhood.
