Skyline with Trail of Lights – Austin, Texas

I wanted to continue with the festive holiday spirit for a few more posts, so I’m starting a mini-series I shot just a few days ago. It’s a decidedly current subject compared to the two-year delay I had showing you my pictures from Europe.

The Trail of Lights is an Austin holiday tradition dating back to 1965, which takes place in Zilker Park. My wife and I went with friends on its last day, December 23rd.

As we walked to the event, I saw a downtown perspective I usually don’t see. Coupled with the Ferris Wheel and foreground color — part of the Trail of Lights — it makes for an atypical and festive view of the growing Austin skyline.

I’m featuring a deeper dive into this year’s trail of lights with larger pictures in this month’s free photography magazine, which is coming out in a few days. I’ll also talk about the latest camera I’m testing. Signup for the free email magazine to read the story.
