City of Austin Power Plant – Austin, Texas

You might have seen this sign in yesterday’s post. No, I didn’t zoom in to shoot from the same spot but walked down the street and used a 30mm equivalent framing. I’ve always been a fan of the lettering on the Seaholm Power Plant, which once powered Austin but has now been redeveloped into offices.

I looked it up, and I thought I found the font’s name, but the Google AI was hallucinating since it gave me three different answers—oh well. Either way, I love the way it looks and remember seeing it lit up more than thirty years ago when I would drive downtown from MoPac before the boom of all the downtown skyscrapers.

The beautiful red color is worth a photographic comment. Each camera has its color pallet, and I’ve noticed big differences with red. I like the rendering with this Leica D-Lux 8 and the Sony A7C, which produces a deep, satisfying red. Fujifilm, by contrast, creates more of an orange color. So, despite Fujifilm’s vaulted color science, it doesn’t do all things properly.

As a photographic bonus, the 1/4 second shutter speed created a pleasant blur of a passing car.
