Ellis and Corner

Ellis Bar - Austin, Texas

Ellis Bar – Austin, Texas

I’m back at the Ellis Bar at 2nd Street and Congress Avenue, one of my favorite subjects during a camera test. While I’ve never stepped inside, I’ve photographed and blogged about it a couple of times including this post with the Fujifilm GFX 50S II and this one with the Sony A7C. I’m very much attracted to its angular modern design.

The framing and processing are different on each version. Unquestionably, the images with the medium-format Fujifilm and the full-frame Sony are of higher quality when viewed on my 27″ 5K monitor. However, each photo looks good in these smaller sizes.

I’ve been conservative in brightening the shadows on the Leica D-Lux 8 because of the smaller sensor and the risk of added noise. In reality, it’s not much of a concern, at least for this picture. A much brighter version looks clean, but I opted to post this one because the shadows add more mystery.

Bar, Corner Restaurant - Austin, Texas

Across the street is the bar at Corner Restaurant at the JW Marriott. Plastic uncharacteristically covered the walls on this not-too-chilly night, though there was an incoming cold front. I like the effect of the lantern-like warm red glow surrounded by unpopulated tables.
