It was past blue hour—the unfortunate short kind we get in Austin that lasts less than 15 minutes—but I had these pictures originally in color. On a lark, I converted them to black and white, and what a visual pop they produced. The mix of color temperatures in the windows unified with this monochrome conversion, which simplified.
At the start of this series, I featured black-and-white skyscrapers during the daytime, but those don’t have nearly the impact you see here. I should keep this in mind for future skyline imagery.
As I’ve done in this series, I hand-held the Leica D-Lux 8, a premium compact camera, to take these night pictures. All were shot at 1/8-second in their widest 24mm equivalent setting. I achieved a base 200 ISO for two of the photos for the highest possible image quality.
