Highway Color – Colorado

I’m winding down my Colorado coverage with the final mini-series of landscapes, starting with this one. I shot all three landscapes on my highway drive from Telluride back to Montrose, where I boarded a plane to Denver and back to Austin.

This first picture was taken with the Fujifilm GFX 50R and the Fuji GF50mm f3.5 lens. It’s a sweeping vista with a slight s-curve and lovely distant mountains. The highlight of the image is the perfectly golden trees combined with a few of the leading line elements. The picture above is at the standard 4×3 aspect ratio used by the GFX.

This second picture is exactly the same as the image above but cropped to a 16×9 ratio. I think this framing looks better for the composition, reducing the close-up highway details that are extraneous to the image. Plus, it fits perfectly on my 5K monitor without any black borders. I’ve considered making a large print of this but haven’t so far. Part of the challenge is finding the right spot for it.
