The Light House – Taylor, Texas

No fancy or historic architecture in today’s post, although the building is undoubtedly old. I feature a cute retail shop called The Light House. Something that caught my eye as I walked around in Taylor, Texas. I feature my usual head-on perspective in the second photo. However, I wanted to start with a nicely balanced image of buildings and power lines. Just to prove that I can shoot cityscapes from different angles.

The jumble of wires would drive me crazy if I lived there—too much clutter to process. But as an exercise in framing, I find it a challenge that I can appreciate. I love it when I can precisely put a box around a scene.

Though, if I had to do it over, I would shoot the same way from a few steps back. I want to have more breathing room above the street light and below the curb. I originally framed it that way but didn’t account for the crop I got when perspective-correcting.

The composition appears much cleaner when shot directly from the front. The loose wires are more visually manageable. I love how the pole anchors the photograph. Make a note of the distant building on the right. You might see that tomorrow.
