Climbing another level above Edo Koji, which I featured yesterday, we are treated to a panoramic view of the airport. I caught the sunrise from this expansive room, which offered extensive views. I purposely kept the exposure dark to emphasize the curve of the LED-lit ceiling and the exterior view. The resulting image is more dramatic than the actual space.
There were more stores on this level, and some airport-oriented displays, such as small models of various aircraft from multiple carriers. Instead of mimicking old Tokyo, this level is thoroughly modern and takes its cues from the exterior airport views.
There is a large observation deck outside, so you can see planes without looking through glass. The smattering of planes adds visual interest from near to far; however, it highlights one of the things I don’t like about Haneda. On certain flights, which probably happens more on non-Japanese carriers, you don’t have direct jet bridge access to the terminal, at least on arrival. I’ve walked down stairs and taken a bus to the terminal. It seems old-school and not fitting for a major international airport.
