Here’s another stylish retail store located on the same street as the one I featured a couple of days ago. While the store was closed, its red storefront and red interior glow created a striking look.
I often use Google Maps to track where I walk in a city. Looking up store names works well, and I can use Street View to trace my path and match them to my photos. However, in Cuba, this didn’t work. There is no Google Street View. Also, I looked up Delicatessen Novator, and nothing came up. This street and location will remain a mystery.
The term “delicatessen” is interesting in Cuba. It’s not what you think in the U.S., with freshly sliced cold cuts and sandwiches that you find in New York Delicatessens. In Cuba, a delicatessen is more of a state-run store that carries higher-priced, scarce products or imported items. Makes sense. Viewing the picture at 100% I can see Snickers bars, Kirkland Brand Popcorn, and cans of Pepsi. Ordinary stuff for us, but expensive treats in Cuba.
