Blue Hour and Motion Blur

Blue Hour and Motion Blur - Havana, Cuba

Blue Hour and Motion Blur – Havana, Cuba

It was only a dozen minutes since I took the picture I featured a couple of days ago of the alley in fading light. However, we are now in full blue hour. The closer you get to the equator, the quicker and shorter the blue hour is. Look how wonderful the glowing yellow light on the left looks, contrasting with the blue skies.

The architecture in this part of the alley is also more interesting.

I didn’t set out to create a motion blur; that was a happy extra. When the light fades, I often drop my shutter speed to lower my ISO and achieve the highest-quality image. I shot this at 1/6 of a second. The perfect duration for blurring passing pedestrians.
