Cafe Bohemia at Night – Havana, Cuba

Continuing “home” after our first day photowalk in Cuba, almost at the casa, Cafe Bohemia looks more lively than the afternoon. Located in Plaza Vieja, the warm glow and string lights create an inviting atmosphere, complete with live music.

Daytime architectural photography or urban landscapes can be fun, but I live for nighttime urban photography. Blue hour is great, as I explained earlier, but even into the night, the glow from artificial light and the shadows make for more drama.

I didn’t think about it when I snapped the picture. I often look for interesting scenes, but the lighting has a complex, multi-dimensional aspect. There are the interior lights, the lights in the covered loggia, the string lights, and even lights on the table. All of these layers create that visually rich space worthy of night photography.
