These rows of once-grand apartments were on the other side of the street from the Capitol’s rear. The contrast is remarkable. The Capitol is grand and renovated, as we saw yesterday, while these buildings are shabby and partially abandoned.

As a photograph, just appreciating color and texture, the first image is wonderful. I was able to frame the passing pedicab as a foreground element. However, look at the following picture. It’s of the same block.

Looking at the upper floors of the tallest building, you can see that it lacks a roof or windows. It’s really a shame because clearly these weren’t cheap disposable structures. It took many years of neglect or lack of funds to get to this state. Also, notice the scooter, another element that adds dimension.
