The Crowd at the Brooklyn Bridge – New York, New York

As I teased a couple of days ago, my wife and I made it to the Brooklyn Bridge. It was certainly her first visit to the iconic bridge, and believe it or not, despite being a New Yorker and living there for 18 years, I had never been there either.

When I grew up in New York, I didn’t do many touristy activities. Part of the reason was that I lived there, and you often don’t do touristy things in your home city. Plus, as I’ve mentioned several times, New York was different back then. The threat of crime was always in your head, so you didn’t readily visit other parts of the city if you didn’t have to. Perhaps most importantly, I wasn’t a photographer as a teenager. Now, I explore more places because I want to photograph them.

The Brooklyn Bridge was wonderfully lively and almost had a park-like atmosphere. I’m sure they were mostly tourists snapping pictures of themselves and their families. It gave me a good opportunity for street photography.
