I usually don’t do much deep analysis before taking a photograph. Often, something visually interesting is enough for me to consider a shot. That’s especially true with street photography, where you don’t have much time to think. I liked this corner in SoHo, and a woman in a bright outfit without much visual clutter around her gave me a clear subject.
It was only afterward, looking through my library a year later, that I noticed this woman appears to be the same person I featured a couple of days ago. As you might remember, it was in a completely different environment, and I photographed her and a friend from behind. However, her striking and colorful outfit makes it very likely I photographed the same person on a different street and from a different angle purely by accident.
Beyond the woman, I like the group of people on the left. The picture is less structured than my previous two in SoHo, but you’ll notice that the background architecture still has precise framing. Without the woman, however, the image would fall apart, but having one strong visual element goes a long way.
