Late Night Pizza – New York, New York

This $1.50 pizzeria is near where I stayed, and I’ve eaten there several times. Not as a full meal, but as a quick snack. And it really did cost $1.50, including the tax.

New York City is certainly expensive, but I found some genuine food bargains in Manhattan. This inexpensive pizza, in plain cheese, might be slightly smaller than a regular slice, but it’s satisfying. It actually tasted quite good. Not the best, but it was certainly worth more than they were charging. The key, however, is getting the plain cheese slice. Add any toppings and the price climbs quickly. As a pizza purist, however, cheese is the only way to truly size up a pizza. Toppings hide the taste of the all-important base pizza layer.

I shot this picture as I walked from Grand Central Terminal to the hotel. It was past dinner time, after 8 p.m., but there was a sizable crowd. I like how the glow from the menu casts enough light to reveal the people waiting in line.
