I just saw this deal at Adorama and thought it was worth sharing. Get a refurbished Nikon D3300 with two lenses for only $379.95 and free shipping too. Offer expires March 10, 2016. Both kit lenses, the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm, have image stabilization.
You may recall that recently I’ve been shooting sports with a similar setup. I got mine refurbished too, back during Black Friday, last year. I do however use the 55-300mm (82mm to 450mm equivalent) lens which has a longer reach and is a bit more expensive. But if a 300mm equivalent range works for you, this is a fantastic deal.
Just think, you get an APS-C sensor, fast focusing and a 27mm to 300mm equivalent range in this small DSLR kit.
How does it compare with a two lens Olympus OM-D E-M10 setup? The image quality is about the same, though the Nikon has a 24MP sensor compared to Olympus’ 16MP. In theory, the larger APS-C sensor should perform better at higher ISOs and should have better dynamic range. In practical terms, however, I haven’t noticed a huge difference.
I think the Nikon will be superior for fast action sports, though for almost everything else, I prefer the smaller Olympus setup. For portraits, the larger Nikon sensor will give you a shallower depth of field.
The Nikon also has a very nice flash system, which I think is superior to Olympus.
I’ve gotten a lot of my best stuff refurbished from Adorama or Amazon sellers. I’ve never gotten a bad camera or lens this way. Very happy with everything.
