Uptown Sports, East Side – Austin, Texas

I don’t much about Uptown Sports though a blog described it as a “once proud Eastside venue”. Why is it called Uptown Sports, when it’s just east of downtown? Who owns it? The speculation is, despite its prime spot in a rapidly gentrifying east side neighborhood, the condition of the building, the renovation and rental costs don’t make it financially viable for businesses.

Inevitably, something will happen. It will be renovated or torn down. I wanted to capture its decaying but wonderful character soaked facade, as it is in 2016. I also love the scooter rider, which nicely fills a hole in the foreground. Shot after the Dia de los Muertos Parade, in October, as I walked back to my car.
