Back in late November, last year, I was downtown admiring the new Central Library and the rapidly developing westside neighborhood. This couple, sitting by the freshly landscaped library grounds, seemed to be enjoying the sight, too. With the huge influx of new to Austin residents, my 27 years here may now qualify me as an old-time Austinite. It’s hard not be amazed by the changes downtown.
The Seaholm re-development is complete, as is the Central Library. The 2nd Street Bridge now links these places to the rest of downtown. The spaces between are rapidly filling with at least four towers under construction and many more planned. Is this just the start or is there a bubble headed towards bursting?
I’ve gone downtown just to document the growth. I suppose with two and half months that have passed since I created this photo, I’ll need to go again, to update my visual record. In ten or so years, this photo will look ancient and would probably be even more interesting. Such is the value of photography, to freeze time.
