I mentioned yesterday the we at ate at Steamboat Bill’s on the way to, and on the way back, from New Orleans. They have some great Cajun food, but as you can tell, it’s not a fancy restaurant. I noticed something, however, on our evening visit, on the way back home.
The modest restaurant, lit mostly by natural light during lunch time, transformed into a rather interesting space. The harsh fluorescents are tempered by the colorful and festive lights. You can tell I’m a night person. A place that didn’t visually attract me at all during the day, is entirely different with man-made lighting. Artificial lighting can add dimension and depth that’s not available from just the sun, blasting through small side windows, which often can be quite harsh.
I might be an outlier, I admit, but I really like things like this. Of course there’s some neon, which always helps. Take note of the large alligator on the right dressed with beads. This is from Louisiana, after all.
