A prime couple block stretch of downtown Austin was carved out, protected by chain link fencing. Big white tents lined a side extending the entire length. Definitely some kind of party I thought, as I walked passed the area. Mostly empty, a few people were setting up.
I headed east, documenting the street, my handiwork which I’ve posted for the last few days. Circling back to Congress Avenue, the empty compound was packed with the well-dressed. A complete transformation in less than 40-minutes.
A cop turned security guard for the night said it was the Paramount Theater Gala. The marquee read “FEATURING THE B-52S – SOLD OUT”. Sounds like fun. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one that thought so. The chain link divide in the middle of a public space really highlighted the have and have nots.
