I don’t often associate old-world elegance with Texas. After all, Texas is a young state, and it doesn’t have a large inventory of old-world architecture, like Europe. That’s why this spiral staircase was a pleasant surprise.
I attended a late afternoon reception with my wife at the Holt Center at Trinity University. The Holt Center is an old mansion converted to a reception space located on Oakmont Court, a block full of grand mansions west of the University. Trinity owns a number of these 1920 era buildings. During my recent visit, I got to attend receptions at three different houses.
I wasn’t able to make my ideal composition, however. There were some items stored near the statue, which I was mostly successful in excluding from the frame. It’s too bad. A wider perspective would’ve been even more impressive.
Note: I was able to send out my October newsletter as I planned. I even managed to send it out a little earlier than usual. There’s always more work than anticipated, however, getting everything as polished as possible. I hope you like it.
