I was really impressed with Nadia’s work. It had a look that stood out from many of the artists I saw at the Canopy, which is the central hub for East Austin Studio Tour.
Nadia is also dedicated. Spending 10+ hours nearly every day, including weekends, on her paintings. She mentioned upcoming shows in New York City, San Francisco, and Toronto, and was working diligently to complete her works.
I’m not versed in art, but I felt a strong dichotomy between the serious artists and the creative hobbyists. Both are wonderful, but there is a difference in the level of commitment. It’s the same in photography. While I’m serious about my photography, I’m not a professional, and I do this as a creative hobby. There’s no pressure for me to make a living with my images. Having to do so will change the entire nature of what I do.
