While I explored the back alleyways of Arab Street in Singapore, I came upon this display. The colorful and contrasting colors, the mixture of plants, and the well-worn facade is a big contrast to the shiny modern city typically portrayed. I’m guilty of just showing the modern, rich, and touristy side of Singapore myself until yesterday.
As a photographer, I’m attracted to color and texture. And, even though this may not be a typical tourist snapshot, I find it worthwhile nevertheless. While I do enjoy the sharp well-manicured designs of the upscale shopping centers, authentic everyday designs also have merit.
Give me the high-end glitter or down-home texture. What doesn’t hit my photographic radar is the ordinary and boring.

I love this “back alley” series of images.
