Frog Fountain, TCU – Fort Worth, Texas

Campus Commons is my favorite area of the TCU campus, which is a modern take on a traditional college quad. Dorms flank the two longer sides with larger academic buildings on the short sides of the rectangle. On the eastern side sits the Frog Fountain, one of the campus landmarks.

The Frog Fountain is perhaps influenced by the school’s mascot, the Frogs. Officially the Horned Frogs, which is not a frog at all. It’s a small lizard found in Texas and is referred interchangeably as Horned Frogs, Horned Toads, or Horned Lizards. Seems rather confusing.

I like the architecture in this area, however. You can see the signature sandstone bricks that are used throughout the campus, which I mentioned yesterday. Though there is a mix of building styles, the bricks add a cohesiveness to the entire campus.
