Downtown Holiday Decorations – Austin, Texas

I needed more than a visit to the local mall to inject some much-needed holiday cheer. I went downtown. With two cameras in hand, at night, I explored a nearly silent city. Monday night is usually quiet, but the increase in COVID precautions probably further dampened the energy.

Yet, there were some signs of life. Distant sounds of live music and hidden gatherings not evident from the street. I had a destination in mind, but I also explored. I noticed once-booming businesses shuttered. Usually packed bars with only a person or maybe a couple.

Holiday lights were sparse, but I found some. In front of a commercial building on Congress Avenue. Are the white-collar occupants even going into the office? Or are they Zooming from their spare bedroom in their bedroom communities?
