I met Destiny twice at this year’s Drink and Clicks. This portrait is from the second outing in early July.
The lighting was far from perfect. In fact, it was very contrasty and challenging. Luckily, Destiny had slow and deliberate poses, which made precise shooting a lot easier. I went back to an f2.8 aperture which required exacting focus. The upside is a lower and cleaner ISO 800. That allowed me additional post-processing latitude to calm the highlights and shadows.
One advantage of the big sensor in the Fuji GFX is that I can often underexpose with confidence. I know that I can raise the shadows without much-unwanted noise. Thus, I was able to make sure I didn’t blow out any bright areas. I think the resulting picture is a calm and confident portrait — one that seems to capture Destiny’s personality.
