We originally planned to go to Little Tokyo in the late afternoon. However, after seeing the size and scope of The Getty Center, we allocated a lot more time to this fantastic museum. It was worth it. Little Tokyo was relegated to dinner and an hour of exploration.
The two worlds couldn’t be farther apart. The Getty, located in the affluent exurbs in the mountains north of Santa Monica, is the epitome of high society. Directly east about 20 miles, in downtown LA, is gritty Little Tokyo. It seemed a little rough, even pre-Covid. I’m sure it’s worse now.
We scouted for a restaurant — one that had decent reviews without an hour wait. We found a satisfying one. Though some of the surrounding establishments had hefty lines. I didn’t realize why until I discovered that I made this photo on December 28, 2019. We were there on a Saturday night. Not cluing into the day of the week because we were on vacation.
