I was instantly attracted to this glowing red light in Little Tokyo. As I mentioned numerous times, I’m a sucker for neon, particularly at night.
As beautiful as this is, I found it slightly a little confusing. Why is there a bold sign advertising Chinese Food in Little Tokyo? And it wasn’t even real Chinese Food.
A quick search of Wikipedia revealed the rather complex history of Chow suey. It appears to be a Chinese American dish of some bastardized original. I don’t think you can go to China and order Chop suey, for example. And, even now in the 21st century, no self-respecting real Chinese establishment would serve this stuff.
The fact that it was in Little Tokyo makes it doubly confusing or even insulting. At least the neon was pretty.
