We are back in the heart of Waikiki at one of my favorite spots. This is Lewers Street looking south. At the end of this block is the upscale Halekulani Hotel. And beyond, the famous Waikiki Beach.
About 15 years ago, a major re-development completely changed this area. Modest old hotels were torn down. Others were completely renovated, and a two-tiered shopping area was added, as you can see on the right.
I’ve not seen this area before the re-development and tried to find pictures. But, beyond some small postage-sized pics, I couldn’t get a feeling of what this neighborhood looked like. The resulting Waikiki Beach Walk development appears to be a success. Judging from how crowded it gets, especially at night.
