I’m wrapping up coverage of the Salt at Our Kaka’ako mall with this structure. It reminds me of an urban barn. You can clearly see the industrial influence.
For the last couple of posts, I’ve mentioned how this mall is different from your typical shopping center. And this barn seems to function as a community space with regularly scheduled events. In fact, this mall and the development around it are phase 1 of a multi-year redevelopment plan. With private and non-profit partnerships, the developers are forming a vibrant community.
We were there on a Saturday, and there was a concert schedule here for later in the afternoon. I would’ve of loved to have stayed. With limited time, however — as tourists — we continued on, not realizing that they only had concerts once or twice a month.
