Shrine, Arizona Memorial – Pearl Harbor, Hawaii

The Arizona Memorial is divided into three parts. Entry, assembly room, and shrine. While the assembly room is the largest with generous openings on the sides and top, it’s the shrine that’s perhaps the most dramatic.

Here you have the inscription in marble of the names of the USS Arizona’s honored dead — in total, 1,177 sailors and Marines. With the erosion from the saltwater, the wall has been replaced twice, once in 1984 and again in 2012.

I waited for the crowds to pass before taking photos. This couple remained longer and decided that the image was more powerful with them viewing the inscriptions.
