My wife and I met some friends from Austin in Honolulu. They were vacationing there, too and our schedules luckily overlapped. Nothing exotic. Just some drinks and appetizers at Waikiki Brewing Company. Since it was Saturday night, the wait was nearly an hour.
There we met Taylor, our waiter. Over chit-chat, I discovered that she was from Pennsylvania, recently moving to Hawaii. I studied and worked and Pennsylvania for nearly nine years. And Mike, our friend from Austin, also grew up in the western part of Pennsylvania. We all made an instant connection.
We celebrated our common roots with a picture. Not an easy feat in a dark bar with a modest kit lens. Post-processing and a monochrome conversion turned a candid snap into an acceptable photo, attempting to roughly recreate the look of my Drink and Click portraits. Considering the subpar lighting, it turned out better than expected.
