I’ve mentioned that Austin has a train, right? Yes, it’s modest — a single line that goes from downtown north to the suburbs. Over the next decade, extensive plans will triple or quadruple the trains, trollies, and bus rapid transit systems.
This is the newly expanded downtown station. It’s supposed to increase the volume of trains by growing from a single track to three. I documented its construction during the pandemic. Finishing under budget and ahead of schedule, let’s hope that bodes well for the more ambitious expansion in the future.
The mirrored, sculptural awning makes for striking photography. Given its low volume, I rarely see a train in the station. My visit during SXSW finally yielded an opportunity for train (and station) photography.
Note: I just released the May issue of my monthly photography magazine (aka my monthly newsletter). This is something completely different from my blog. So, if you subscribe to my blog posts, you’ll like my free monthly magazine too.
Over the last three issues, I’ve talked about every Olympus camera I own — a hard to believe 31 cameras. That’s in addition to all my other thoughts and observations about photography. Signup for the next issue.
