You would expect some high-tech transport in a tech-forward, aspiring-green city like Austin, particularly during SXSW. An electric self-driving vehicle, perhaps? Not so. The choices are much more down-to-earth. Though significantly more practical and anti-fragile.
Even if the self-driving vehicle is perfected in the next decade, it might not work well for SXSW. The distances are too short and much too crowded. No, these compact transport options work a lot better, I think.
Next to walking, these alternatives are greener than any other high-tech solution, too. Sometimes — often, actually — simple is better. Me, I walk everywhere once I get downtown. More accessible and more flexible for picture taking.
