With all the changes on South Congress Avenue, especially ones that shift the neighborhood to an upscale clientele, it’s comforting to know that the old standbys are still around. Yesterday, I talked about my favorite pizzeria, Home Slice. Today, an Austin ice creme favorite, Amy’s.
After an early dinner, my wife and I walked South Congress and decided that Amy’s Ice Cream would make an ideal dessert. We shared a double-scoop of their darkest chocolate.
Amy’s is a local Austin ice cream store chain and has been around since I arrived in 1992. Wikipedia indicates that there are 14 locations, and the chain started in 1984 — a true Austin institution. All the ones I visited feature colorful and playful decorations.
